How to Get Started

The first step to see if we are the right firm for your case is at your initial meeting. During our meeting with you (either in person, telephonically or via internet) we will discuss your issues in depth and you will have an opportunity to get to know our staff to make sure that you are completely comfortable with us.

During your meeting with Ronne, she will provide you with an informed assessment of your situation. No two matters are exactly alike. Based upon your information Ronne will provide you with the following:

  • A list of the legal issues that you are facing;
  • Ronne’s opinion on each issue;
  • Ronne’s recommendations on how to proceed on each issue;
  • Strategy on how to position yourself for optimal results;
  • Answers to all of your concerns;
  • Referrals to experts that may assist you.

At the conclusion of the assessment, Ronne will quote a retainer fee which is based on the complexities of your matter. If we are both comfortable and ready to move forward together, a signed fee agreement with payment will result in the retention of Kaplan Family Law, LLC. We will then begin preparing any necessary documents or other work, depending on the protocol of the case.

Clients also have the option to retain the firm on an hourly or task basis, such as preparing for mediation, reviewing Agreements (Separation Agreements, Settlement Agreement, etc.), parenting plans, responding to discovery requests, drafting and responding to a settlement offer or giving a “second” opinion on a pending matter. By “unbundling” legal services, clients are able to use the firm’s expertise for a specified fee. While every client’s situation is unique, it is important to remember that the amount of time a law firm charges for legal representation is largely the function of the amount of time that it spends on the case. Unlike full representation, in which Ronne gives advice, conducts legal research, gathers facts, drafts all letters and documents and represents clients at every court appearance, “unbundled” or “limited representation” legal services allow clients to receive targeted limited legal assistance.

If you would like to schedule an assessment of your situation, or just have general questions, please complete our Contact form. If you would prefer to call us, please contact our Senior Paralegal, Shari at 770-333-1620.

It is important for us to obtain all the facts, discuss all the issues with you and review any relevant documents, agreements or pleadings prior to giving legal advice. In order to determine the best way we can serve you and because of the nature of the matters we deal with. We believe the assessment of your situation is necessary before you decide to hire us and we can accept your case. We cannot give you advice specific to your situation without a signed retainer agreement.
